WWI Air War (December 2014)

Another year has passed so very quickly in which I hope all enjoyed their games.
We continue to build on the club terrain with games boards from Jason (we hope he returns sometime in the near future) and Paul B.
More rivers and roads from the South Australian company Miniature World Maker (https://miniatureworldmaker.com.au).
Donations from War and Peace Games (http://www.warandpeacegames.com.au/default.asp) including the buildings of La Haye Saint.
Another enjoyable Christmas lunch.
We would all like to thank Geoff for his big effort for putting on the December Air War game, thanks Geoff it was great.
The Allies won the day with 14.5 victories vs 13 victories

From Geoff:
This years WW1 period covered 2 time periods, the first being the period just after the Fokker E3/4 scourge had been eliminated by such planes as the Fe2b, Fe 8, Be12, Nieuport 11 and 17 and the Germans have introduced a number of new planes to counter the Allied superiority, these included the Fokker D2,Halberstadt D3,Roland D2 and the Albatros D1 & D2.
The later period has the usual Sopwith Camels, Snipes and Dolphin, the Spad 13 and SE5A, whilst the Germans have the Fokker D7 and new planes this year the Pfalz D12 and Siemens Schuckert D3 and D4.

See the pictures below.

A Halberstadt D3 and 2 Albatros D2's, are those guys in the distance running away

A DH2, Fe8 and Nieuport 17, they can't even get all the same planes

A Nieuport 17 with a good sighting of an Albatros D2, but can he shot straight

An Albatros D2 with a passing sweep of the allied aircraft, nah nah nah

Looks like a collision course, no you turn

A DH2 trying to get on the tail of a Roland D2, as if

One of the 2 Nieuport 11's ( an extra 1/2 point was awarded to the pilot [David] who managed to shoot down an Albatros D2). Did the D2 have a pilot?

Breaking off the engagement, he has run away

Looks like an attempted Immelmann manoeuvre by both pilots, ok were is he ?

The late war aircraft from left to right Sopwith Snipe, SE5A and Sopwith Camel v's Fokker D7, Siemens Schuckert D4 and Pfalz D12. Are there is the Ace in the D7, nice looking plane.

Herman Goring's Fokker D7 against a Sopwith Snipe, he is not carrying to much weight, we hope

Herman Goring's Fokker D7 against a Sopwith Snipe, Herr Goring have a snipe at a snipe

A Lone Fokker D8 taking on a Sopwith Dolphin and another Snipe, you will both go down.

Above the trenches, a PfalzD12 and Siemens D4 taking on an SE5A and Camel. Plenty of target markings on the camel.

A downed Fokker D7, looks like another victory to a Snipe. He fall down.

Goring into the dogfight with a Snipe. It's not over till the fat German sings

A Spad 13 in the sight of a Fokker D7, Rata Tata Rata Tata

A Jasta 18 ( Red Fokker D7) gaining an advantage on a Dolphin, money on the red

Siemens and SE5A go head to head whilst a Camel looks to gain an advantage on a Pfalz D12. Heads up.

Line up of the early war German aircraft

Line up of late war Allied aircraft

The top scoring German with 4 victories Herr Paul

The Allied top scoring Pilot Lt Roy with 4 victories

Comments

  1. I need to mention that most of the biased comments came from a disappointed German pilot ( Thoran), no Blue Max for you this year.
